Self Portrait Stippling...AGAIN
Ahh so I wanted to rework my stippled self portrait, I wasn't happy with this one, so, again utilizing this digital stippling method I created a better version. There will be more self portraits..!

Self Portrait Stippling
Sooo for my last assignment of the semester my Illustration teacher asked us to create a nice self portrait that we would put on our Illustration website. A nice easy assignment to commence the year. I didn't want to take the typical digital painting approach when creating this piece, so basically all you could hear in my room last night was Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap of the stylus on the Wacom. I really like this new technique. I may continue doing it and see what i can come up with ].

Sketchbooks Are Just My Thing
Ahhh it's been awhile indeed Bloggers! Just uploading some sketchbook pages I'm rather proud of. I visited the National Gallery & the Smithsonian about two weeks ago and I thought I'd share some of my sketches from the Edvard Much prints exhibit, and a sketch of an Elvis at 21 photography exhibit. A few of these other ones are just observational drawing and such. Enjoy!

Long time since I've posted...just has not been good lately....
Sorry to anyone who follows my blog extensively for not posting anything, I've been having a hard time regarding my art work lately, serious self doubt issues, etc. But here are some things that I've finished through the personal turmoil I've been enduring. They turned out nice, my work is better, I just have been beating myself into correcting all my bad habits, and it is starting to show. For now I'm going to just keep going.

Blaze or Tabatha? What name will work....
This here is a character design I recently completed based off of this character I've been drawing since age 10, I'm going to be making a bunch of these and then putting them all together on one or 2 sheets as a character flash sheet, for a portfolio for a Rockstar Games internship, and many other game companies I''ll be applying to for summer work and internship experience. Here we have the fire element, next is the water element.

Finished my first illustration of the year, myself, as who I am, a metalhead. I need to really kick my habit of stagnant composition, therefore I have been photographing people in intense perspectives. Since this one isn't up to par as to being "good" or "dramatic" perspective or gesture, I'm categorizing it as a study and practice piece involving digital painting with a Wacom tablet, the technique I'm very pleased with, and some have thought this was a traditional painting on canvas, which is awesome, you know you handle digital art well when it looks like traditional medium.

Graphite Drawing, first piece of Fall 2010
I've just completed a graphite pencil piece for Life Drawing, a self portrait, I really tried to concentrate on making everything in the foreground, middle ground, and back round have purpose with more pristine detail and such. However I can't seem to take a decent photo, here are the two attempts... the one with the glare is much more accurate....

This Concludes Summer Commissions 2010
So here are three paintings I've been working on vigorously, finally finished and shipped to the client. My client is an aspiring comedian/ actor, and he wanted 3 painting as a gift for himself and the two other guys in his improv team, Attorneys At Lawghter. He really didn't know what he wanted so he basically stated, "Just do three different pieces of the three of us, use our photos as reference." I had to do something a little more interesting than just "copy" photos, so I tried to incorporate vastly different styles and approaches between each of the three paintings. Using realism, caricature, and poster art, these paintings all turned out so different, yet I really like the results. These were all done with Acrylic paints on canvas.

Digital Painting, 1 down, 5 to go....
I'm working on a 4 piece series for a final project currently. Here is a finished piece. It's exploring how a person's identity is associated with the car they drive. I have been meaning to develop and create off this idea, and I finally had the chance to for a project I need to complete. They will all be digital painting, the focus on the person and their vehicle, juxtapose off to the side on the "digital canvas." My friends are all unique, and different traits can be exemplified in each piece. This finished one, for example, is a friend of mine who is a total motor head. The guy cannot go a day without cleaning the body work of his Mustang or doing some sort of auto mechanical tweaking. He is also one of the biggest rednecks I know, and I love it! (There's no shame in being a redneck, I glorify it!) So here he is, drinking some refreshing beer, smoking a Marlboro, and standing in a proud stance next to his pride and joy. I'm very pleased with the outcome.
Color Study Thumbnails
Ok, so the compositions of these sketches and color studies are being thrown out because they're too static. Too symmetrical, and not very interesting. I played it safe when I sketched these considering they are meant to be on a square CD cover, and I was taking into consideration where the text would be placed. Although these ideas are being thrown out for the most part, I absolutely love the work I did on the color studies, and I feel it was a major corner stone for how I approach digital painting. I am also using these babies for color study reference, as the color palettes used I really like. I was told more experimentation should be used with the colors, but I might just go with instinct and see where I end up, I fear too much experimenting could be a color disaster. These compositions have been built upon for a better idea which I have currently made into my final piece.

Thumbnail Time!
So I'm starting an album art project. These ideas are all based off of a friend's vision for a hard rock album cover. I need two of these pieces. So here's the nude with the tattoo in a desert sunset/sunrise, whatever it'll be. I have 4 thumbnails so far. I would love to incorporate a 3D element into this too, being my last 3D illustration was very successful.

3D Illustration is INSANE!
SO! I've just completed a project that needed to involve elements of collage, whether it be paper, drawing over photos, collaging vintage photos, or 3D illustration. I chose 3D because it seemed so entirely unique to me. So I based my piece of the of Jersey Devil, the odd horse headed bat winged creature roaming around the New Jersey Pine Barrens in South Amboy. I wanted to create a full blown, highly detailed Sculpey Devil, but my attempts failed due to the infrastructure poorly supporting the weight of the top of the figure. So, I photographed in pieces, collaged photos of gnarled trees and branches together, digitally painted, and came up with this gnarly concept. 'm almost reminded of I SPY when I look at this piece. But this was my first project ever involving 3D illustration, and I'm extremely pleased with the outcome!

Mustang Portrait
So I've finished this self portrait with an 04 Mustang GT, I felt inspired to do a series based on people and the significant impact a car has had on their life, not like the typical point A to point B car driver, but the person who will love their cars more than their kids essentially. It may be a summer series. Compositionally my digital paintings are getting stronger, proportions still need tweaking, but I'm really trying to correct my bad habits. I think the piece was quite successful. Especially the color scheme. The cold air intake vent is perspectively wrong by far, only issue I had with drawing a car free hand.

Under Painting, Mustang Portrait
Here it tis, me and my pride and joy, well at least not for another 3 years. I getting much better at this Wacom Tablet, I still fail at flat color though, but I prefer the more dimensional, depth consisting, realistic colors. After Jeremy Enecio's did his demoin class a few weeks ago, he really helped me to establish my own style and method built off his own.

This is a VERY old series, but it's got potential to be continued...
Scholarship Portfolio: 4 Works for More MICA Scholarships
This work is a small collection I am submitting for more scholarships from MICA, each piece is acrylic paint on gessoed paper, and each still life has an interaction between objects or environment in affect in the composition. I never knew still lives could be so fun! Some of these can even depict a narrative.
